No burner ignition no gas to the burner or a combination of both. A gas range will always make a clicking noise whenever you turn on the surface burner knob after which the burner will light. If the burners do not light or produce a low flame check the stove s supply valve. If your electric oven is not working but the stove top is the situation is similar to that of a gas stove.

But unlike with coil element or electric stoves you have to ignite the burners to be able to cook anything on a gas stove. The hot surface igniter is used in modern gas oven burners to open the gas valve and to ignite the gas.
